The legendary Moroccan Sultan Moulay Ismael had sex with 19,000 young women between 18 and 30 years to get 1171 children. Scientists of the University of Vienna figured out how the Sultan possibly got so many kids. They agree that it was quite possible

Sultan Moulay Ismael brutally ruled Morocco from 1672 to 1727. The Sultan was “ bloodthirsty” because he beheaded enemies without mercy. But the Sultan was apparently busy with not only ruling his empire but also having sex. The entire female population was at his disposal. He could have sex any woman he wanted.

In his case, it was possible to get more than 1000 children. The researchers of the University of Vienna figured out how many times the Sultan had to have sex to gen over 1000 children. Researchers also wanted to find out if it is at all possible to get so many children.

The scientists agree that it was possible. The Sultan needed to have sex about once a day for 32 consecutive years. Obviously, he needed a new woman every day.

Researchers do not agree about some aspects of male reproduction. While researching about the Sultans sex life, scientists use computer simulation to test how many intercourses a day was required to achieve the above mentioned reproductive output.

The test result showed that it was actually possible that Moulay Ismael could achieve high reproductive success.

That much reproduction required up to 19,000 intercourses

Now it was true that the four wives of the Sultan did not stand to feed all the children themselves. It is quite comprehensible that four wives of the Sultan could not give birth to 1000 children

The harem of the Sultan had more than  1000 concubines, all of whom were under 30 years old. When a concubine passed over 30 years, she was thrown out of the harem and a new young concubine was employed. The sultan seldom had sex with the same woman twice.

According to the researchers’ calculations, the Sultan needed to have sex with between 9,500 and 19,000 women. That was at all impossible. The Sultan had sex once a day, every day for the 32 years of the Sultan’s reign. The sultan had a recruiting team to collect young women for the harem. The employees of Harem sorted out women who had fertile time. The Sultan took women only when they had a fertile period.

Models calculate sex frequency

In their studies, researchers have used three different models of reproduction to calculate how often the sultan would have sex to have many children.

The following models include in their calculations:

• that the Sultan had unlimited access to sex with a new woman every day.
• that women are fertile only for a given period of time each month.
• that some women have not been fertile.
• that the fertility of the sultan’s sperm has been declining throughout life.
• the chance that the sperm fertilizes an egg after intercourse.
• involuntary abortions.
• child mortality and more.

The researchers have also taken into account that the concubines in the harem may have synchronized their ovulation, which has further reduced the chance of pregnancy.

They have also taken into account that women during ovulation often appear more attractive to men than women who do not ovulate. This has increased the chance that sexual intercourse has resulted in a child.

The result of the calculations is that the Sultan had to have sex with either a wife or concubine 0.83 to 1.63 times a day for 32 years to have his 1,171 children.

Evil unfaithful concubines

Some people may have doubts that some concubines might have been unfaithful and became pregnant by others than him. Historians reject the theory.

The Sultan was so possessive that he suffocated that he punished them by cutting breasts, or pulled out tooth if he had slight suspicion of adultery. He executed men who only looked at his concubines.

Moulay Ismael took extreme measures to make sure he was the father of his children. None dared to mess up with him.

Could be satisfied with fewer women

However, it was not necessary for Moulay Ismael to cling so firmly to all of her 504 sex partners. At least not if his goal was just to have over 1,000 children.

The new study also shows how many women the Sultan could have satisfied.

A study suggests that It is possible for a man to have 1171 children with less than 100 women. But Sultan did not have a shortage of women.

Researcher: It is certainly possible

The Danish professor and a fertility doctor at the University of Southern Denmark and the Fertility Clinic at Odense University Hospital, Jens Fedder believes that it is possible for a man to be the father of so many children.

Ten intercourses per child are very normal. Less intercourse is needed for having a child when the woman is fertile age, ”says Jens Fedder.

Sultan used to have sex only with young women. Women over 30 years had no place in Sultans harem

“Women between the ages of 18 and 30 are in their most fertile age. At the same time, men, and thus also the sultan, can maintain good fertility until the age of 60. Therefore, there are good chances that sexual intercourse between a young woman and the sultan may have turned into a child, ”explains Jens Fedder.

“If the Sultan was surrounded himself by young women and been able to choose a new woman every day, then it is possible that he has had sex as often as it has been necessary to have the many children, Says Jens Fedder.
